Protectorate of Menoth Warmachine

As promised from way back when, I give you my Menoth to date.

I have 3 categories when it comes to Menoth, 1, finished. 2, nearly finished and 3, no where near finished. The no where near finished includes still in box...

Category 1:
Not much show for so many years, but I've had quite a lot of play out of just these few minis. As these guys are the religious loonies of the world I went with a monk theme which means lots of browns.

High Exemplar Kreoss.

Like most people I started with Kreoss as he comes in the starter box. His known for his Menoth's Wrath Feat, which can be amazing, as everything within 14" is knocked down. But like all Feats it can be gotten around, just ask him how he feels about models with Steady! His a very good all rounder with a mix of offensive and defensive spells and one that can play havoc with your opponents Focus or Fury, its called Lamentation and all enemy models with 14" have to double the cost of spells they cast and upkeeps cost 2 instead of 1.

Feora, Priestess of the Flame.

From what I can tell this Feora is often overlooked by her Epic version The Protector of the Flame, but I prefer this version. This is also the caster I have had the most success with, I just always seem to pull a caster kill out of the bag with her. She is very aggressive and plays best middle to up field, not the wisest thing to do in this game, but it works for me. This girl has 2 flame throwers and is not afraid to use them! Her Feat is either amazing or useless... All enemy models within 12" are set on fire, which sounds amazing, but you have to remember that a possible 1/3 will go out before damage is caused and against most Jacks you are looking at needing to roll 8 or higher to do any damage. But when you manage to catch a Khador Winter Guard Death Star with it, it's a thing of glory!

The High Reclaimer.

Mr Burning Ash himself, with only a Focus of 5 he is the lowest caster in the faction, but I don't let that worry me, you march forward behind a wall of line of sight blocking clouds, get in charge range and then try to batter everything to death, simples. But watch out for Eyeless Sight (I hate Legion). His Feat can bring back 4 to 6 models that have been killed, its wonderful to bring back half a unit your opponent spent last turn killing. You just have to remember which models have been removed from play, as they can't come back.

The Crusader Heavy Warjack.

The most basic of jacks if ever there was one, the back of its card is blank! It does one thing very well, that's smash face, hard! With a bit of support and Focus this guy can really dish out a beating, but that's about it. At 6 points he's basically free with most casters and if you can get him to the enemy he will make a mess.

The Vanquisher Heavy Warjack.

This is the jack I probably use the most, he has the Chain Weapon and Thresher abilities on his Blazing Star but no reach! It's bigger than most standard infantry models!! But that is not why you take him. You take him for his Flame Belcher, it's a power 14, 10" ranged weapon with a 4" AOE that sets everything underneath it on fire (including your own models as I have found out). He costs 8 points which is the same as the Reckoner (possibly one of the best jacks in the game for his points cost), but I think a very valid argument can be made for taking him over the Reckoner.

The Ravenger Light Warjack.

This little fellow has an Arc Node which I initially thought was the best thing since sliced bread, but it turned out not so good. The spell ranges put him close enough to be charged the next turn and once engaged you can't arc spell through him anymore. If he is engaged by anything that can deliver a whack he is going to get smashed! He does have a Repulsor Shield that does push whatever has hit 1" away, which is great if it doesn't have Reach as it can no longer attack and you can arc spells through it again. Offensively it has Powerful Charge which brings it MAT up to a healthy 8, but it's only power 13, enough to kill infantry, but I can't see a Khador Jack panicking too much. At 6 points I would normally take a Crusader, but if I really want an Arc Node its a good choice.

The Repenter Light Warjack.

At 4 points this guy is steal! with a Chain Weapon War Fail and a Flame Thrower he does the job with less Focus dependency than you would think. He really only needs one Focus on the turn he is going to fire to boost to hit the most important target as if the normal damage roll doesn't kill it, it will be set on fire. What a great little jack.

Nicia, Tear of Vengeance Solo.

This angry young lady has it all (except Pathfinder), she is fast with a really high defense, has built in Stealth, a good ranged weapon and is a Weapon Master. Her other impressive abilities include, Fearless, Advanced Deployment, Acrobatics, Quick Work, Rapid Strike and Sprint! Not bad for 3 points. A word of caution though, beware AOE's! with armour as low as hers she might as well be naked and will die if caught underneath one. Oh I forgot to mention, she also has reach.

The Choir of Menoth.

Where would Menoth be without these boys? A whole lot worse off that's where. At 2 points for 4 or 3 points for 6 these are an absolute must if you are taking more than 1 jack. They have 3 special abilities each one can put on a jack, there are Battle, Passage and Shielding. Battle gives +2 to both attack and damage rolls, +2 might not sound like a lot but it is immense and can turn the humble Crusader into an absolute wrecking machine. Passage means that non magics range attacks cannot target them, perfect if your going against a gun line. If you are going against a magic ranged attack heavy force Shielding is what you want, its stops all magic attacks against them. They do go down easy and will get targeted by an opponent that knows what they can do, so spread them out, you really don't want a AOE landing in the middle of them.

Category 2:
Almost finished I have The High Executioner Servath Reznik, a Dervish Light Warjack a full unit of Cinerators, a full unit of Holy Zealots with the Monolith Bearer and a Vassal of Menoth Solo.

All of these I will write a bit about when they are done and I have pictures.

Category 3.

Deep breath.
Reckoner Heavy Warjack
Exemplar Bastion Seneschal
Exemplar Errant Seneschal
Daughters of the Flame
Exemplar Bastions
Deliverers full unit
Exemplar Errants full unit
Exemplar Errant Officer and Standard

There are few more models I would like, but best get these done first...

So that's my Menoth for now, I do intend to crack on with these as looking forward to using them a bit more often now we have a place to play...

While the wife has been away I have started doing this for her.

She is a massive Arrow fan, she has assured me it has nothing to do with Stephen Amell and I believe her, honest... I really do!

Its the Knight Miniatures 35mm Arrow miniature for the up coming Batman game. I have to say my only complaint with this miniature is the price, at £12 for 1 model its a bit steep. Having said that the model is near perfection, the sculpting is superb, very little to practically no flash or casting lines. So its a top quality model with the price to match. So as I have got her the Arrow model I can't see any reason why I can't get myself the Harley Quinn model, fair is fair right?

The base is made from a GW movement tray section, the wall is a few pieces from a 1/48 Tamiya kit and the drain pipe is a good old Capri-sun straw with a bit of brass from a left over frame from a brass etched kit. It went together really quickly and so far all the painting has taken me just over an hour. Still need to finish the Arrow, which should not take long as its only his face and hood that need doing. So hopefully completed pictures coming soon.

That's it for now, thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again real soon with a Menoth update and completed Arrow scene.

Khador All-in-One Army Box

Maybe this blog be should be titled 'I knew I Married Her For A Reason'

My wife casually brought up in conversation the other day she is going aboard to stay with her aunt for a week, fair enough. 'When' I asked? 'Thursday week' was the reply. Awesome a week alone... what will I do? can I blag more time off work? how much of a mess can I make in a week?

Then she informs that she is going alone and leaving the kids with me, oh well, I have no problem with this at all, but all them plans I had in them few seconds gone.

So, the postman knocks with a package this morning that my wife hands to me... I check, its not ticking, it has no haz-chem symbols so I open it.

'Oh', is about all I can manage. She goes on to explain that she doesn't want me to get bored while she is away. I now have 3 thoughts: 1, How awesome is this! 2. I obviously done a better job than I thought hiding all the stuff I got recently. 3. So you get a kid free week in the sun in a luxury apartment and I get a box of models. Again I have no problems with this.

So as Brad Pitt asked 'Whats in the box?'
This!
1x Epic Sorscha
2x Heavy Warjacks
1x War Dog Solo
1x Widowmaker Unit
1x Winter Guard Unit with 3 Rocket Attachments
1x Winter Guard Officer and Standard Bearer Attachment
1x Kovnic Jozeg Grigorovich Solo
1x Lady Aiyana and Master Holt Mercenary Unit
Mini Rule Book
Strategy Cards with tactical tips

The mini rule book is exactly the same as the big one without all the fluff and faction backgrounds, plus its a lot easier to carry around. The strategy cards tell you a bit about the how to use the army and what they recommend for growing your force. Nothing special but the quality is top notch.

Sorscha, the dog, Joe, Widowmakers, Winter Guard Officer and Standard Bearer and Aiyana and Holt come in shell blisters with no card insert, the cards for these were tucked in the rule book.
This is what I'm most excited about, Even though they advertised on the box you get a Spriggan and Demolisher you get the choice of all 3 Jacks that come in the standard box, so you can have 2 Spriggans, 2 Demolishers, 2 Devastators or any combination you want really. I really thought you would have only got the bits to make a Spriggan and a Demolisher, but I'm really happy to be wrong. Will have to have a look and see about magnetizing them... But 2 Demolishers marching down the field sounds pretty cool to me.
Last but not least the Winter Guard, what more can I say, Winter Guard Death Star in a box! it has everything you can have!

Not sure about Aiyanne and Holt, but I have the Widowmaker Marksman and a Manhunter so its an easy swap. The one thing about Aiyanna and Holt being mercenaries is that I can paint them however I want (I know I can paint anything anyway I want, but the other Khador stuff I have is red). So might give them a bit of attention and come up with something different.

That's it for now,  will hopefully be back with day 3 of the Stoic Arms soon and then I guess I'm on to Khador!

Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again soon.

Oh, and my missus is awesome! Don't tell her I said that...

Skorne starter set (with a difference)

So after many many years I have finally finished my Skorne starter set! And by many years I mean it came with the MkI cards and I got it at Salute (well, I think it was Salute but I could be wrong) the first year they were available! So as you can tell they have been sitting around for some time.

I have only used these once which can be found here I didn't use Morghoul as I had the Naaresh figure and thought I'd go with him, but I have decided if/when I play these I will stick with Morghoul.
Used with kind permission of Riot
So as you can see from the picture most of them were complete, it was just the Brute that needed finishing.

So here he is:

This guy is a must for Morghoul, because a knocked Morghoul is dead Morghoul! His Animus is Safeguard, which means no knockdown and reduced slam distance.

Morghoul in all his low armoured glory!

The only thing I dont like about this model is the gloves, we are beyond Edward Scissorhands and are in the Morghoul Garden Shearshands region.

The Gladiator...

What a beast! The only problem with his almighty slam is that you cam slam and follow up out of Morghouls control area, so you can't force for more attacks.

The Cyclops Savage.

Nice all round light, can dish out some damage, and the fact that can boost after rolling means you should always get the best out of him.

So far I'm doing well on the painting front, but I still have 13 Goblins to paint for the 19th...

I mentioned in my last blog about the Stotic Arms from 4Ground, well I just got the confirmation E-mail that its been sent, so stay tuned for massive Inn action...

Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again soon.

Speed painting Khador

Ages ago I got the Warmachine Starter Box, which has Menoth and Khador forces in. I have painted and used the Menoth force a few times but the Khador got glued together and shoved to the back of the cupboard.

Well I decided it was time that changed. So over the last 2 evenings I have done this.
Its the starter set plus the wardog. I got the wardog because the Menoth set that comes in the starter box is 1 point more than the Khador force, and when you have a point left over for Khador the wardog is the miniature you want.

I did paint him ages ago which is why the red does not match with rest (plus some of paint has chipped off, which I'm classing as battle damage).

Kommander Sorscha is the Warcaster in the starter set, I did write about her in a previous blog when there was a Journeyman League starting at the old club, shame it didn't go anywhere. She's a pretty solid caster with an amazing assassination run from a long way away.

The Destroyer and Juggernaut are the two Heavy Warjacks I also wrote about in the previous blog.
Both pretty good Jacks, but Khador have much better ones which I'll get to later.

Man-O-War Shocktroopers are big and 'ard! With naturally high armour and the ability to shield wall as an order with 8 damage boxes each they can take some shifting! They have a good strength melee attack and a powerful yet short range attack. On the downside they are slow!

So that's what I have painted so far, on the bench I have Kommandant Irusk, a Koldun Lord and a Manhunter.

If I do take these any further, which I really want to do, I have a few ideas...

Warcaster: Sorscha and Irusk are good, but you cannot overlook the Butcher!
Warjacks: I have always loved the Spriggan, 2 ranged attacks, 2 melee attacks and a few special rules make this a great choice. If you take Irusk's tier list they are a point cheaper which you cannot argue with. Plus it has a really cool name!
The Devastator is another awesome jack, all I need say is armour 25!!! I know it drops when you attack but that is a lot of armour. Its 'rain of death' attack can also be a game winner. It too is 1 point cheaper in Irusk's tier list.
So with the tier points decrease and Irusk's 6 warjack points that's these 2 monsters for 11 points!
Units: Don't think I need to write about the Winter Guard death star, but its on the list. Iron Fang are an amazing unit, with the officer attachment and Iron Fang Kovnik nearby they last a while and really dish out some punishment, they are a maybe as I really like the Assault Kommandos. With a choice of 2 range attacks and 2 melee attacks, they are not bad. Add to that they ignore cloud effects, have the assault and battery and shield wall orders at 8 points for 10 they work for me. The attachment I'm not too sure about, it will take some testing to see if I can work out how to use him. But he does have a flame thrower!
Solos: Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich is an auto include if you have the Winter Guard, he just does so much for them.
The Man-O-War Drakhun is solid, high armour, loads of hit boxes and hits really hard. But he only has 1 attack on the charge, but it hurts!

So a few things to think about, but I am leaning towards Irusk and his tier list, even its just tier one for the reduction on the jacks...

So to add to the models painted this year I can add: Sorscha, Destroyer and Juggernaut warjacks, 5 Man-O-War Shocktroopers and a wardog (Well I only finished the base, but its still finished).

I know I should be painting Goblins for the 19th, but just can't bring myself to do them at the moment, but I will...

That's it for now, as always, thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again soon.

Life the Universe and Wargaming plus a bit of Circle of Orboros

Life the Universe and Wargaming.
Apologies for the total lack of any Blogs, but as you see I have a been a bit busy...
Life, we shall leave work well alone at this point, but I still have a job which is a plus.

My missus has MS and has been in and out of hospital a lot recently, she is ok but has been in all this week after having an emergency operation. So between the kids, work and hospital, lets just say its been fun! The main reason for her MS flaring up a lot recently is that her mother has terminal cancer which as I guess you can probably tell has caused a bit of stress, which is really bad for her. So all in all a bit shit really, I have only had one moment where I totally lost it but am keeping on top of things.

The Universe as the song goes is evolving and revolving at nine hundred miles an hour.
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned... and what with the new encroaching galaxy they have found coming the opposite direction from the Big Bang it's all exciting times. But as we are all still here and life races on I will take that as another positive (gotta take 'um where you can hay?).

Wargaming as I also guess you can probably tell has taken a major back seat, I have only made it to my club twice in about 3 months and played one game of Warmachine and was introduced to a new board game (well new for me anyway) called Stone Age, which was really novel for me as you don't actually kill anything, its a resource management game where the person with the most at the end wins. Its a well thought out game but does look like it could carry on a bit, we played a very short version and it lasted a good few hours. It also involves a lot of maths, which to be honest at the moment I can really do without the extra thinking.

I have managed to paint about half of the High Reclaimer and a few Circle bits for Warmahordes, which to be honest is pretty pathetic for all this time. But again to be honest when I do have a bit of free time (that just made me laugh) I really have not been in the mood to do anything. It's kinda funny really as when I don't have the time I really want to do something, a bit of a paradox I guess.

But I am really looking forward to getting back to the club on a more regular basis (famous last words) and will leave you with some pictures of my circle stuff to date and the hope that it will not be so long next time.

The Gorax is possibly the worst model from Privateer Press I have ever seen, but it was a freebie and works well on the table.

The Feral Warpwolf is a great warbeast, all be it with a limited Animus.

The Argus Hound is not too shabby for 4 points and with the ability to hand out pathfinder to heavies is a must in the current list I am working on.

The Winter Argus has 2 spray attacks and an armour buffing Animus, pity it only works on itself and the Warlock.

Thanks for stopping buy and hope to see you again soon (honest I will really try).
