Fleeing Fred

Meet Fleeing Fred...

This is the  model that comes with the Warhammer Giant. I painted him for 2 reason, the first was to how fast I could paint a model from start to finish.
So from clipping from the frame to flocking took me 23 minutes. I only timed the actual time I was painting, so the sand on the base drying and wash drying is not included. So considering who long he took I think he came out rather well. I must admit that his mainly shades of brown, which is my favorite colour to paint and the 3 brown Citadel washes are great. The whole model is base coat, wash and highlight, nice and simple.

The second reason for painting him was to add some scale to my photos. Most people reading this will know how big a standard 28mm man is. So when you see him next a monster model or any model to that matter, you should get a good idea of how big it is.

Lets see him in action...

So as you can see, the giant is... well giant really!

Oh I also finished my giant.

He took me a lot longer than I thought, but kept changing bits and used really thin paint, so had to wait to for them to fully dry before adding the next coat and in the case if the yellow, the next coat and the next and the next...

Now I should get on with my Goblins for the 19th, but really want to finish my Maggoth Lord...

So to the list of painted models this year I can add Fleeing Fred and the Giant.

Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again real soon and who knows, I might have a finished Maggoth Lord to show...

Just a little something

I started this little chap a while ago, well I say started, what I actually mean is I stuck it together and primed it. After the big game the other day where we could have summoned a giant, but couldn't because we did have a figure I thought it was high time to get him done (well nearly).

Still needs a bit of work, but looks a lot better than the ever popular Matt black.
Will try and get this finished tomorrow and post up the results...

Then on to finishing the 1000 points of goblins I need for my first battle at the new club...

Thanks for stopping by and hope to be back real soon.

Plaguebearers, Tamurkhan and deadlines

So it looks like I'm doing a Chaos Legion for the End Times. As more of a fluffy player than a competitive player I'm thinking of doing some type of Beastmen force with a few Warriors on the side. I used Beastmen in a massive End Times game the other day and was impressed, as they are considered totally outdated and not very good I wasn't expecting much, but on the whole they done really well and the 4th level Beastman Shaman was fantastic.
As you can now summon Daemons in the new End Time rules I have done these:

Really pleased with how these came out and will do a few more. Really like the look of the Plague Drones, so will have to get a few of them just in case the I can get the higher level summoning spell off. Three of them appearing from nowhere can't be a bad thing, can it?

Hopefully more on this to follow...

As I'm doing Nurgle my friend said that I might like the Tamurkhan book, 'The what book' was my reply. He reached down into his pile of books and pulled out a might tomb. This is the Tamurkhan front cover.

It turns out Tamurkhan is forgeworld book. Its truly awesome, the quality is top notch, from the layout, art, right through to the paper its printed on is outstanding. It's a campaign book about a Chaos invasion, that includes some fantastic stories, full campaign rules and rules for special characters. Not only Chaos get new rules, but Empire get a mental looking landship and it has the only official rules for Chaos Dwarfs (that I know of). So as you can probably guess, I'm pretty impressed with book, couldn't bring myself to ask how much it cost... If I knew I probably wouldn't have brought it home!

The one thing that really stuck out in this book to me was the Rot Knights, its a special rule that allows you to swap Chaos Knight steeds for a Rotbeast. Basically it turns them into monstrous cavalry. I have a few ideas how to make them, but will be a while till I get round to them...

The old club might have new home, if it pans out we will be meeting the Creative Biscuit in Woodford, details can be found HERE.

My first game will be against Skaven (I hate Skaven!) And if he brings a doomrocket I'm gonna force feed him everything he kills with it! If you look back through the blog to my first ever fantasy game you will understand where my hatred of Skaven and doomrockets comes from.

So I have until the 19th of February to come up with a 1000 point list. I only have 750 points painted, I have worked out what I want to take and only need to paint 13 models. So should be doable...

Riot over at Riotville is counting the models he paints this year, so in a shameless rip off I'm gonna do the same!

So far this year I have painted a Nurgle Lord on foot and 10 Plaguebearers. Few other bits nearly finished...

Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again soon.

The end times are here!

Again I have to start with an apology, its been far to long but a lot has been happening.
My mother in law finally passed away today after an horrifying battle with cancer. All mother in law jokes aside it was heartbreaking to watch and my wife has finally fallen asleep after being awake for about 48 hours.
As I can't sleep I thought now is a good a time as any to get back into this thing. I know it might seem a bit cold waffling on about painting and playing with toy soldiers today, but I have to do something and I'm not painting this time night! Last time I done that the daylight revealed a slightly different result, so much so the miniature had to go in the goo and be started again!

So what have I been up to in all this time...

Well I have been practicing with the new airbrush my missus got me for Christmas, and until it clicks its a real sod! This is the first thing I am willing to post pictures of.

This is the Griffon from the Isle of Blood starter set, but i didn't like the elf on his back so off he came and I'm waiting on the wizard that comes in Karl Franz box. I need to see how he will fit and will have to make up a saddle. So hopefully more on this to follow. But as a first real attempt at airbrushing I'm happy with it.

My daughter fell in love with Legolas after we watched the Hobbit, and when she found out she could have an army of Wood Elves she fell back on my old trick of relentlessly banging on to mummy (or in my case wife) about models she simply has to have!  I must point out at this time she is far better at it than me!! So as Christmas was coming up we got her the army book and few box sets. After a few nights painting when she was bed I managed to come up with this.

Meet Sir Barky, I really enjoyed painting this and she absolutely loves it!

She also has some Dryads, Glade Guards and Daughters of the Thorn. She also saw the art work for Ariel and wants her as well, but as only her husband got rules in the new book I will have to come up with something for her (suggestions very welcome).

The End Times! This is the first thing that has me excited about fantasy in a while, I really like the story and what they are doing, so much scope for scenarios and one off special games. Not too sure I'm happy with what GW have planned for the future (if rumors are true), but we shall wait and see.
I have seen which way the wind is blowing and present this meager offering to the new Chaos overlords.

This guy is going on a converted beast that I'm working on, hopefully more to follow and will do some work in progress stuff and dare I say write about how I'm doing it!

I am also working on this (I know, I know, just for once finish something!).

Happy so far, but a way to go.

That's it for now, will try and get to you soon with a nurgle update, just need to get through the next few days. Thanks for stopping by and sticking with me and hopefully 2015 will see some of these promised blogs!
